OUR STORY
THE DEER PARK JUNIOR HIGH CARING COMMUNITY BIG RED CLASS HAS BEEN ORGANIZING EVENTS AND RAISING MONEY FOR DPISD STUDENTS BATTLING CANCER AND SERIOUS ILLNESS SINCE 2014. WHAT BEGAN AS A SMALL EXTRACURRICULAR COURSE HAS BECOME A DISTRICT-WIDE EFFORT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR STUDENTS' LIVES.
OUR FIRST RECIPIENT, PAIGE LEJEUNE, WAS A FELLOW FAWN FIGHTING T-CELL ACUTE LYMPHOBLASTIC LEUKEMIA. AFTER SHE WAS DIAGNOSED, THE STAFF AND STUDENTS OF DPJH DECIDED TO HOST A FUNDRAISER TO HELP PAIGE AND HER FAMILY AS SHE BATTLED THE TERRIBLE ILLNESS.
ALTHOUGH PAIGE WAS BATTLING CANCER, SHE ALWAYS PUT OTHERS BEFORE HERSELF. SHE HAD PLANS OF BECOMING AN ONCOLOGY NURSE AT THE HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WAS TREATED AND LOVED HELPING YOUNGER CHILDREN GOING THROUGH THE SAME EXPERIENCES AS HER. AFTER TWO YEARS OF FIGHTING THE TERRIBLE DISEASE, SHE STEPPED INTO HEAVEN, BUT WE ARE ABLE TO KEEP HER MEMORY WITH US THROUGH THE ANNUAL PAIGE PROJECT.
